The Vale das Amoreiras area, in the parish of Aljezur, municipality of Aljezur, is located between Carrascalinho and Aljezur at the foot of the Serra de Monchique. The southern slope of the Vale das Amoreiras, facing north, is covered by an autochthonous forest of oaks and oak trees over an area of about 10 hectares. This forest in the Amoreiras Valley is home to large oaks, some species that are rare in Portugal, such as Quercus canariensis, Senecio lopezii and Ilex aquifolium, which already deserve a protected status.
The reason for the designation of the private protected area lies primarily in the preservation and conservation of this space, which is maintained in a natural and well-maintained state, and the natural resources present there. The goal is to preserve a relict native oak forest (Quercenion broteroi, in phytosociological terms) for future generations to enjoy the heritage, beauty, and benefits
