HDMS Skjold was a coastal defence ship built for the Royal Danish navy. Laid down in early 1894 and launched 2 years later in may 1896, then completed in may 1897. Her career followed a similar patern of most Danish ships of the period, acting as a deterrent to would be attackers of Denmark, but never seeing any action. The design also followed a similar pattern of having one or 2 larger guns, and then some smaller guns scattered around the ship for fending off torpedo boats and destroyers. Then for extra measure, some torpedo tubes were added. The ship would be scrapped by 1929 after over 30 years of service.
