This is a fixed human heart that was donated for research. The donor was a 61 year old male with a history of high cholesterol. This donation was received with significant sections of the atria removed, which is common when transplanting certain other organs, to ensure the transplants go smoothly. In this model, the mitral valve is visible through the left atrium. The heart was scanned one day after fixing. This heart uses reference ID 0627.
We partner with [LifeSource](https://www.life-source.org/) to receive donated organs deemed not viable for transplant.
